Drunk Fish Bottle Opener
Inspired from paper cutting art in north China. In the art, fish stands for harvest. The fish mouth opens the bottle. This is a totally hollowed piece. 3D printed in alloy of stainless steel and brass. The rough surface is mildly polished, which gives a smooth feel and antique look. The reason for this design to come is, that I wanted to design an opener that is classic with quality, a piece that will last, not a temporary / additional tool or advertisement piece or a conversion from other objects. I wanted to design something that people will want to keep. As an inter-cultural designer dedicated to bring back antique arts into modern life, I started to study antique classic arts and objects. Then I found that some patterns from old Chinese wall arts are good for the column shaped openers ( in this case it's the paper cutting art of fish ), by wrapping around. They have been classic already, so they not only add textures for a comfortable hand-holding, but also bring in the classic characters along with themselves. After that are minor adjustments to find the best size of the pattern, making them hollowed with enough thickness. That's the process from inspiration to final solution. The solution is created as a 3D model and sent to a metal 3D printing factory.

Cracking Ice Bottle Opener
A bottle opener is a modern tool, while the cracking ice pattern is a window art in the ancient years long ago. This design is a combination between modern life and antique art, functional tool and decorative piece. Then I found that some patterns from old Chinese window arts are good for the column shaped openers ( in this case it's the cracking ice window shield ), by wrapping around. They have been classic already, so they not only add textures for a comfortable hand-holding, but also bring in the classic characters along with themselves. After that are minor adjustments to find the best size of the pattern, making them hollowed with enough thickness. That's the process from inspiration to final solution. The solution is created as a 3D model and sent to metal 3D printing factory to prototype.

Back then there was no technology of material, people just connect bamboo pieces to create a window shields, with each one different from the other. What an honor to the nature.
